Last September 28, 2007, I was speaker of the 2nd Student Advertising Congress held at the AFP Theatre. Before the main event at the AFP Theatre, I was also a speaker for the school tour series held in St. Paul Manila last August 4, 2007.

It was such an honor to be part of the roster of speakers for the event, all I wanted to do is help inspire the students that eagerly listened. For those who missed my talk, here is my speech outline:

Knocking Out the Competition

I. Introduction (4 minutes)
a. Info about Hollywood Boot Camp (Video Presentation)

II. Preparing for the "Battle" (2 minutes)
a. The world of Mass Media is like the world of boxing
b. Boxing, like everything else, is vile and cruel.

III. Boxing and Mass Media: Prep before the Fight! (4 minutes)
a. Throwing the punches (Qualities you should possess before you "battle")
1.Jab - efficiency (doing great things in less time possible)
2. Straight - perseverance (reach for your dreams)
3. Hook - passion (loving what you do)
4. Uppercut - confidence (believe in yourself)
b. self-defence (know what inspires you)

IV. The "Battle" Begins: 4 Rounds of blow by blow action (7 minutes)
a. Round 1: Develope a Portfolio
- Practice what you have learned
- Show what you can do
- Step forward in the world of employment
- Develop your creativity and passion
1. Join clubs and organizations related to your field
2. Attend seminars and trainings
3. Go beyond what you do in school

b. Round 2: Know what you want to do and get there!
- Plan what you want to do before and after graduation
- Budget and schedule your steps
1. Research - find companies (or industry) that you prioritize applying; know the dos and donts of job hunt
2. Prepare a marketing package - prepare a resume, portfolio, and credentials
3. Apply - get out and let the world know what you can do
4. Follow-up - the employment key, never lose hope
5. Collect, Select, and Evaluate

c. Round 3: Squeezing the Creative Juice
- Advertising and the world of mass media is all about being creative and innovative
- There is no formula on how to be creative, it is instinctive
- Body copy, slogans, headlines, taglines, Internet content, television or radio commercial scripts, press releases and other written materials incorporated into advertising media.

A. Maintaining a Creative Lifestyle
1. Read books
2. Watch movies
3. Critique commercials, films, etc.
4. Continue to write
5. Visit museums
6. Travel
7. Re-read your college notes
8. Keep an active lifestyle
9. Healthy conversations with family and friends
10. Always pray for divine intervention

3. Answer the brief
4. Be relevant
